Product Description :
Xsistech PU Foam Backer Rod are shaped with expanded open cell polyurethane material into round or square open cell structure. The PU Foam backer rod is highly flexible, light weight and highly durable make it suitable as a filler in groove or gaps prior sealant application especially when curing of the sealant from both end is required.

Application :
Backer rods are used as a “backing” material before sealant application to fill a void, joint, gap or crack such as in curtain wall, glass wall, clading, construction joint, expansion joint, doors & windows sills for both residential and commercial application.

The primary purpose of backer rods is to:

• Control the sealant thickness and amount needed to fill the joint.
• Force the sealant to the sidewalls to ensure contact and proper adhesion.
• Act as a bond-breaker to avoid 3-sided adhesion of the sealant.
• Create the optimal sealant width to depth ratio, which is 2-1 for most sealants.
• Facilitates formation of an “hourglass” shape in the sealant for optimal performance as the joint expands or contracts.

Installation :
Measure the size of the gaps. Choose a PU Backer Rod with diameter slightly bigger than the gap. Insert the PU Backer Rod into the gaps to the depth required before Sealant application.

Features :
Fast curing from both end
When deep sealing is required. Open cell structure of the backer rod allow air to pass through the backer rod and thus the curing of the sealant can be form both end and cure faster.

Prevent Bubbling.
If punctured during the time of installation, closed-cell backer rod will outgas during the sealant curing process which cause sealant bubbling.
